Château de Germolles
In 1380, Philippe le Hardi, Duke of Burgundy and brother of King Charles V, acquired the fortified barn of Germolles and then offered it to his wife, Marguerite de Flandres. The Duchess transformed this austere mansion into a luxurious residence with the help of the best artists of the Ecole Bourguignonne, including Claus Sluter and Jean de Beaumetz.
Today, Germolles is not only the best-preserved of the residences of the Dukes of Burgundy, but also one of the few remaining examples of princely palaces from the end of the Middle Ages.
