Bibracte

Bibracte - Site et musée , 71990 Saint-Léger-sous-Beuvray

Hidden under the forest, the remains of the Gallic town of Bibracte are gradually revealed.

When you arrive at the foot of Mount Beuvray, where the ancient city of Bibracte is located, you first see only trees. 1,000 hectares of beech and fir forest. Green as far as the eye can see, on a hill that is one of the highest peaks of the Morvan, with its 821 m of altitude, and one of the 21 Great Sites of France.

It is necessary to climb, on foot, by bus or by car, to follow a road or a path in the middle of the woods and the songs of birds, to arrive in front of the door of the Rebout, main access to the city, within the rampart which surrounded Bibracte.

And there, you enter a completely different space. The horizon opens on the remains of a city, its central avenue, its mysterious basin, its monumental ensemble.
